जय अम्बे गौरी, मैया जय श्यामा गौरी। तुमको निशिदिन ध्यावत, हरि ब्रह्मा शिवरी॥

Jai Ambe Gaurī, maiyā jai Shyāmā Gaurī | Tumko nishidin dhyāvat, Hari Brahmā Shivarī ||

ॐ जय अम्बे गौरी॥

मांग सिन्दूर विराजत, टीको मृगमद को। उज्ज्वल से दोउ नैना, चन्द्रवदन नीको॥

Māṅg sindūr virājat, ṭīko mṛgamad ko | Ujjval se do nainā, chandravadan nīko ||

ॐ जय अम्बे गौरी॥

कनक समान कलेवर, रक्ताम्बर राजै। रक्तपुष्प गल माला, कण्ठन पर साजै॥

Kanak samān kalevar, raktāmbar rājai | Raktapuṣp gal mālā, kaṇṭhan par sājai ||

ॐ जय अम्बे गौरी॥

केहरि वाहन राजत, खड्ग खप्पर धारी। सुर-नर मुनिजन सेवत, तिनके दुखहारी॥

Kehari vāhan rājat, khaḍg khappar dhārī | Sur-nar munijan sevat, tinke dukhhārī ||

ॐ जय अम्बे गौरी॥

कानन कुण्डल शोभित, नासाग्रे मोती। कोटिक चन्द्र दिवाकर, राजत सम ज्योति॥

Kānan kuṇḍal shobhit, nāsāgre motī | Koṭik chandra divākar, rājat sam jyotī ||

ॐ जय अम्बे गौरी॥

शुम्भ निशुम्भ बिदारे, महिषासुर घाती। धूम्र विलोचन नैना, निशिदिन मदमाती॥

Shumbh Nishumbh bidāre, Mahiṣāsur ghātī | Dhūmra vilochan nainā, nishidin madmātī ||

ॐ जय अम्बे गौरी॥

चण्ड मुण्ड संहारे, शोणित बीज हरे। मधु कैटभ दोउ मारे, सुर भयहीन करे॥

Chaṇḍ Muṇḍ saṃhāre, shoṇit bīj hare | Madhu Kaiṭabh do māre, sur bhayhīn kare ||

ॐ जय अम्बे गौरी॥

ब्रह्माणी रुद्राणी तुम कमला रानी। आगम निगम बखानी, तुम शिव पटरानी॥

Brahmāṇī Rudrāṇī tum Kamalā Rānī | Āgam nigam bakhānī, tum Shiv paṭrānī ||

ॐ जय अम्बे गौरी॥

चौंसठ योगिनी गावत, नृत्य करत भैरू। बाजत ताल मृदंगा, अरु बाजत डमरू॥

Chauṃsaṭh yoginī gāvat, nṛtya karat Bhairū | Bājat tāl mṛdaṅgā, aru bājat ḍamrū ||

ॐ जय अम्बे गौरी॥

तुम ही जग की माता, तुम ही हो भर्ता। भक्तन की दुख हर्ता, सुख सम्पत्ति कर्ता॥

Tum hī jag kī mātā, tum hī ho bhartā | Bhaktan kī dukh hartā, sukh sampatti kartā ||

ॐ जय अम्बे गौरी॥

भुजा चार अति शोभित, वर मुद्रा धारी। मनवांछित फल पावत, सेवत नर नारी॥

Bhujā chār ati shobhit, var mudrā dhārī | Manvāñchhit phal pāvat, sevat nar nārī ||

ॐ जय अम्बे गौरी॥

कंचन थाल विराजत, अगर कपूर बाती। श्रीमालकेतु में राजत, कोटि रतन ज्योति॥

Kanchan thāl virājat, agar kapūr bātī | Shrī Mālaketu meṃ rājat, koṭi ratan jyotī ||

ॐ जय अम्बे गौरी॥

श्री अम्बे जी की आरती, जो कोई नर गावे। कहत शिवानन्द स्वामी, सुख सम्पत्ति पावे॥

About the Goddess

The fourth form of Durga. Tradition holds that Kushmanda created the universe with a gentle smile when there was only darkness. She has eight arms and rides a lion. Her worship is associated with health, strength and prosperity.

Puja samagri (items needed)

Puja vidhi (steps)

  1. Cleanliness and preparation

    Bathe and wear clean clothes. Clean the puja space and spread a red cloth. Sit facing east or north and place the Goddess's picture or idol in front of you.

  2. Sankalp (resolve)

    Hold water, a few grains of rice and a flower in your right palm, recite the sankalp, then release the water. Your gotra and name below are filled from your saved preferences.

    मम (your gotra)-गोत्रे उत्पन्नस्य (your name)-नाम्नः ममोपात्त-समस्त-दुरित-क्षयद्वारा श्रीदुर्गा-प्रीत्यर्थं नवरात्र-पूजनमहं करिष्ये॥

    mama (your gotra)-gotre utpannasya (your name)-nāmnaḥ mamopātta-samasta-durita-kṣaya-dvārā shrī-durgā-prītyarthaṃ navarātra-pūjanam ahaṃ kariṣye ||

  3. Ganesh vandana

    Begin by bowing to Lord Ganesha to remove obstacles.

    वक्रतुण्ड महाकाय सूर्यकोटि समप्रभ। निर्विघ्नं कुरु मे देव सर्वकार्येषु सर्वदा॥

    vakratuṇḍa mahākāya sūryakoṭi samaprabha | nirvighnaṃ kuru me deva sarvakāryeṣu sarvadā ||

    Meaning: O Lord with the curved trunk and great body, radiant as a million suns, make all my undertakings free of obstacles, always.

  4. Light the diya and make offerings

    Light the diya and incense. Offer roli, akshat, flowers and the garland to the Goddess.

  5. Dhyana mantra

    Close your eyes for a moment and recite the dhyana verse for Maa Kushmanda.

    सुरासम्पूर्णकलशं रुधिराप्लुतमेव च। दधाना हस्तपद्माभ्यां कूष्माण्डा शुभदास्तु मे॥

    surā-sampūrṇa-kalashaṃ rudhirāplutam eva ca | dadhānā hasta-padmābhyāṃ kūṣmāṇḍā shubhadāstu me ||

    Meaning: May Kushmanda, who holds in her lotus hands a pot brimming with nectar, bring me auspiciousness.

  6. Stuti (praise)

    Recite the praise of the Goddess.

    या देवी सर्वभूतेषु शक्तिरूपेण संस्थिता। नमस्तस्यै नमस्तस्यै नमस्तस्यै नमो नमः॥

    yā devī sarvabhūteṣu shakti-rūpeṇa saṃsthitā | namastasyai namastasyai namastasyai namo namaḥ ||

    Meaning: To the Goddess who dwells in all beings in the form of Shakti (power): salutations to her, again and again.

  7. Offer the bhog

    Offer Malpua as bhog to Maa Kushmanda, along with fruit and coconut.

  8. Aarti

    Sing the aarti while waving the lit diya or camphor in a clockwise circle before the Goddess.

  9. Prayer for forgiveness

    Ask forgiveness for any mistake made during the puja.

    आवाहनं न जानामि न जानामि विसर्जनम्। पूजां चैव न जानामि क्षमस्व परमेश्वरि॥

    āvāhanaṃ na jānāmi na jānāmi visarjanam | pūjāṃ caiva na jānāmi kṣamasva parameshvari ||

    Meaning: I do not know how to invoke you, nor how to bid you farewell, nor how to worship you. Forgive me, O Supreme Goddess.

  10. Distribute the prasad

    Share the prasad with family and neighbours, then take it yourself.
